GENERAL GUIDELINES

I, as a volunteer of KSK, hereby agree to adhere to the following guidelines:

1. Proper Attire: During all our activities, please wear:

  • KSK/company/university/dry-fit t-shirt
  • Long pants/jeans
  • Covered shoes

KSK t-shirt is available for every RM35-donation which can be made in office or online

For safety and policy reasons respectively, we do not allow:

  • Blouse, skirt or high heels
  • Clothing that is perceived as promoting disharmony in terms of politics, religion, race or is obscene

2. Belongings: Please refrain from wearing ostentatious items such as jewellery and expensive watches to all volunteering activities – we also advise against leaving valuable belongings in your vehicle.

3. Age Limit: If you are under 18 years of age, you must be accompanied by your parent(s) or guardian(s) throughout selected volunteering activities. Those under the age of 12 are not allowed to volunteer.

4. Adherence to the law: During all activities, volunteers are not allowed to break Malaysian law and/or discuss the following topics:

  • Religion
  • Race
  • Politics

We aim to prevent disharmony; anyone found breaking the law will be reported to the relevant authorities.

5. Photography: We do not allow:

  • Direct photo or video-taking of the homeless people along our Soup Kitchen activities.
  • Photos or video taken of the families we serve without their permission

If you need photos and/or video for your CSR reporting, or for your university or college assignments, please seek approval from the KSK PR team. We have a strict policy of protecting the identities of those we help as a sign of respect.

6. Conduct:

  • Always follow and stay with your team of volunteers. Listen carefully to all instructions and guidelines given by the team leader or coordinator.
  • We prohibit anyone from giving cash to the homeless or the poor under any circumstances. If they request cash, please direct the matter to the team leader or coordinator
  • Please always show respect to those we serve. Do not crowd around them or wander around/enter their place-of-living without their permission. Also, do not touch anything belonging to those we serve
  • Also, please do not react negatively if they are not friendly; if the situation gets out-of-control, we will leave immediately and regroup at a safe place
    • Our homeless clients should never be approached from behind as this might surprise them; instead, ensure that they see you approaching
    • Beware that some of the homeless are mentally-unstable, unpredictable and may not want to be approached under any circumstances. Consult your team leader in such cases; do not chase after or pressure these clients
  • If a homeless client is asleep, do not wake them up. Place the food packet next to him and leave quietly
  • Please keep noise and chatting to a minimum
  • Please be vigilant at all times, whether you are on the streets, PPR flats or villages – this involves not using your phone unnecessarily during all volunteering activities. Also, do not wander off on your own
  • Be careful when moving around, especially on difficult terrain, to avoid injury
  • Please be cautious and considerate of where you park your vehicle so that it does not block traffic

7. Medical concerns: We strictly prohibit volunteers from:

  • Dispensing or purchasing any form of medication for our homeless clients or urban-poor recipients
  • Personally taking those we serve to the hospital

In all cases, consult the team leader or coordinator, including when you see that someone needs medical attention. Remember that some clients may have communicable diseases such as tuberculosis (TB), HIV and hepatitis, so stay safe.

If you are not feeling well, alert your team leader or coordinator. Pregnant women are not encouraged to participate in our volunteering activities.

If you wish, you may bring your own sanitiser or mosquito repellent.

8. Enquiries: If questioned by a member of the public or a government officer about our volunteering activities, please direct the matter to the team leader or coordinator – they are authorised to respond on behalf of KSK.

9. Special instructions for surplus food distribution volunteering:

  • Quality control: please check the quality and expiry date upon collecting food donation from hypermarkets or donors. Reject items that are expired or of substandard/poor quality, and return them to the donor Also, food must be distributed within 2 hours of collection. Avoid keeping food overnight as they can pose health risks when consumed after they deteriorate
  • Hygiene: always wash your hands and wear gloves before handling or packing food
  • Integrity: do not attempt to sell or distribute food to those who are not classified as KSK recipients; offenders will be reported to the relevant authorities. Also, KSK only accepts food donation from HALAL sources. If anyone approaches you wanting to donate food, immediately direct this to the team leader or coordinator (KSK hanya menerima sumbangan makanan HALAL. Jika sesiapa ingin menderma makanan, sila maklumkan kepada ketua kumpulan atau penyelaras).
  • Reporting: volunteers are to report on food collection and distribution activities in the relevant Whatsapp group within 24 hours
